Is Ledger wallet safer than Binance?

Is the Ledger wallet safer than Binance? It seems to be the largest crypto exchange in the world and its security should be at the highest level, but I am still afraid to store crypto assets there. Or are my worries for nothing? Can I download Ledger and transfer crypto from the exchange to my hardware wallet? Is it easy to do that?
